Motivation Monday: Live Your Dreams

Each Monday, we're rolling out a new challenge to change the way you think, act, do, or feel. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be motivated to try something different for a week. And if you love it, keep it going!

Did you make a New Year's Resolution? Are you striving toward something else in your life? Are you moonlighting in some capacity (or a wannabe moonlighter)? This week's challenge is about taking serious steps forward in accomplishing your goals. 

First off - those goals don't have to be totally crazy. Maybe you've been playing around with jewelry design and you're interested in setting up your own online shop. Perhaps you're penning your first novel. Maybe you're keen to learn a new skill. It could even be something as simple as wanting to finally organize your photo collection.

Once you've picked out your goal, it's time to break it down into bite-sized chunks. Take a half-hour this week and do some research for what you need to do to accomplish that goal. It's okay if it's a l-o-n-g list. 

Next, aim to tackle one thing off that list each day this week. If it helps, you can set a time limit. Using the jewelry designer example above, maybe one of your tasks is to research suppliers. This probably isn't something you can complete in one day, so try tackling different sources for suppliers, spending 30 minutes per day over the course of a few days.

If you can carve out even 15-20 minutes per day to chip away at that big goal, it suddenly won't seem so distant or monumental anymore. As you go along, be sure to take notes or keep a checklist so you can keep tabs on all you've accomplished. The 'one thing a day' approach may not garner overnight results, but it can definitely keep you motivated to reach the finish line.
