Motivation Monday: Make A List, Check It Twice

Each Monday, we're rolling out a new challenge to change the way you think, act, do, or feel. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be motivated to try something different for a week. And if you love it, keep it going!

The holiday season is very much upon us and it can be way too easy to get sidelined by crazy sales and flashy displays when hitting the mall. This week, we're challenging you to be prepared when it comes to Christmas shopping - by making a list!

Start by writing down everyone you know you need to shop for. Next, identify a budget for each person. This step is particularly helpful if you're trying to stick to an overall seasonal budget as it can help you anticipate all costs.

After you've set a budget, spend a bit of time doing research for each person on your list. Have they specified items they want? Are they within your budget? Can you think of anything they're missing?

If you're really stuck, trying answering a little questionnaire for the harder people on your list to shop for. Failing that - have them fill out the questionnaire. Ask questions like:

- What is your favourite colour?
- Who are your favourite authors?
- What are your top three favourite ways to spend your spare time?
- What's something new you've tried this year and enjoyed?
- What is your favourite smell?
- What can you never have enough of?

Any one of these can be inspiration enough to find another great gift idea. Case in point - if someone tells you a few of their favourite authors and you note that they're all Swedish mystery writers, ask the bookstore clerk or go online to find new, emerging talent in that same genre.

Finally, spend some time online to see how much items you're considering buying for someone might cost. Keep an eye out for sales and snap up great gifts below budget if you can.

Hitting the mall? Keep that list in hand. Consider having a backup gift idea for each person, in case something falls through with your first gift pick. Use the list as a map to navigate the mall, minimize stress, and avoid overspending.

When you're done, don't forget to treat yourself! Ever Rose has plenty of great gift ideas for you and the ones you love. Happy Shopping!
