Motivation Monday: Get Charitable

Each Monday, we're rolling out a new challenge to change the way you think, act, do, or feel. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be motivated to try something different for a week. And if you love it, keep it going!

This week's mission is totally simple - do something kindhearted each and every day. It can be for a loved one or for a stranger, a charitable organization or an individual. Believe it or not, most charitable acts don't have to involve spending money. Here's a great list of ideas to get you started:

- Research an organization you'd like to volunteer with and contact them to get the process started
- Clean out your closet and donate what you can part with
- Rake a neighbour's lawn or shovel their walkway
- Make a charitable donation online
- Spread the word about an organization or petition you believe in
- Sell an item you're planning to replace anyway and donate the profits to charity
- Bring items to your local food bank
- Offer to look after a friend's child while they run an errand or take some time out
- Bake something and bring it into your office
- Tutor a friend or family member
- Buy a pre-bagged grocery package at the grocery store to donate
- Volunteer your specialized skills to a friend that could use them
- Teach a child about volunteerism and charity
- Lend an item to a friend so they don't need to purchase it themselves
- Offer to buy a homeless person a hot meal or provide them with a gift card for one

If it helps, try documenting whatever charitable acts you do and assess which ones you'd like to make a regular part of you routine. Then, schedule them into your calendar on a regular basis. Maybe you want to volunteer with whatever organization you worked with this week on a bi-weekly schedule. Or perhaps you want to make an effort to donate to a favourite organization every quarter. Whatever the case, being altruistic pays dividends for the community and your heart.
