Motivation Mondays: Hydrate Challenge
Each Monday, we're rolling out a new challenge to change the way you think, act, do, or feel. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be motivated to try something different for a week. And if you love it, keep it going!
This one is totally simple - in theory. Everyone talks about how we don't drink enough water, especially during the hot summer months. This week's challenge? Stay hydrated by guzzling the recommended eight cups (or more) a day. You'll be amazed at the benefits - from refreshed-looking skin to feeling more full at mealtimes to generally just staying more alert.
Here's how to do it. Grab a tall glass or a water bottle and keep it in plain view. Then, at the top of every hour, force yourself to get up from your desk (or the couch, or whatever you're doing) and fill it up. If you're getting close to the end of an hour, knock back whatever is left before refilling. Afraid you'll forget? Simply set a timer on your email or your phone to prompt you to refill your cup.
As a bonus, being mindful of how much you're drinking also forces you to get up and stay mobile throughout the day. All too often we get stuck sitting at a desk and totally forgetting that our bodies actually love moving about. These hourly water breaks (plus an increased propensity to head to the bathroom) means you're also being mindful of how much sedentary time you're experiencing.
Not a huge water drinker? Try livening up your beverage by throwing in some add-ins. Slice up a lemon, lime or orange and squeeze it in your glass to give it a citrusy-kick. Other fresh fruits also taste delicious when thrown into an infuser water bottle - try strawberries, blueberries or watermelon. You can even try throwing in some fresh herbs like mint or basil for a truly gourmand drink. No matter what, water is key to your health and to staying hydrated this summer. So drink up!
